Since i can remember art has always been a big part of my life. Drawing sketching, painting. I would spend hours as kid building lego and creating hotwheel tracks.
When my friends would just be doodling in art classes and struggling to draw circles, id be more locked in drawing with purpose and a more accurate approach. This was the first moment of realisation that creativity came easy to me.
I attended highschool at Nelson College for Boys. Where i first got a taste of art in the digital space, learning the Adobe suite. I was hooked from the get go. I would go into computer rooms alone during interval and lunch time to practise new tools. i owe a lot of credit to my teacher Mrs Kelly for the way she taught our class.
I achieved Endorsed with excellence in all Art design, fine art and photography classes. & was awarded Best Art Design award in my final year of college. My final art board was then critically analysed amongst the NZQA. It was then selected in the Top 12 in NZ. Being curated in an exhibition touring the Southern hemisphere.
The next chapter; Massey University in Wellington, the capital. 3 years of visual language and idea development. Communicating visually is important in this day and age. Have taken alot of my learnings from my university experience and carried them into how i work now. I studied for 3 years while posting artwork on social media as a side hobby with my younger brother Alex. Our page was called asGraphics and it consisted of a lot of digital art based around american sports and glorifying the skills and moments they created with movie like posters and video. Overtime came across my work online. Which lead to Overtime becoming my primary client.
Ive always chased every opportunity that has presented itself. My parents were both Olympic athletes, my mother a bronze medalist. The work ethic rubbed off on me from a young age. It really has helped elevate me above my peers. A quote that has stuck with me that my dad would often say, “There is no substitute for hardwork”. Everything you see below has come to fruition because ive honored that everyday.
Ideas / Concepts / Themes
I got ideas from a variety of different design artists who helped me generate my folio this year, ranging from vector artists to more surreal artists. I enjoy using surrealism. The main theme that flowed through my board was that of a tiger. Tigers represent manly attributes (for example, roaring, which is used on my second board) and warm, dangerous colours.
Techniques / Processes / Materials
My work includes a lot of wet media, which I think is the reason it stands out so much. I created my own textures using paint and ink.
Highs and lows that arose during the production of my work:
I didn’t come across any low points during the production of my work. I loved designing the surreal images, that was definitely a high point this year.
I constructed a world in Cinema4D to take you through a journey. the league has top basketball players from across the globe, battling to become the OTE Champion while working toward the ultimate goal of getting drafted to the NBA. Showcased in front of 230 million Prime Users & 100 million Overtime Fans = 330 million
We are the only league that Amazon has global rights to the production.
